2026 Takeaways

Residents in our region are more educated! Tampa Bay shows year-over-year improvements in all of the credentialing and attainment indicators.

Certificate production increased by 3.35 percentage points to 31.52%, which is a positive pathway to building skills that can lead to higher wages.

Educational attainment saw gains across associate, bachelor’s, and graduate degree holders.

Twelve of the twenty comparison metros have rates of 50% or higher for AA/AS+ attainment, so although Tampa Bay moved up in ranking from 19th to 18th, there is still progress that must be made.

At the bachelor’s level Tampa Bay has incremental improvements but has not made meaningful strides against competition. Our region is below the U.S. average by almost 2 percentage points. Among our peer and aspirant communities, twelve of the twenty have between 40% and 53% of their residents have attained a bachelor’s degree.

Graduate/professional degree attainment rose to 13.48%, holding steady in 18th place.

INCREASING VALUES

  • Having a high percentage of degree production has been shown to have a direct correlation with other prosperity outcomes.
  • Increasing rates of graduate level degree production increases the talent pool for specialized and high-paying roles.

DECREASING VALUES

  • Decreasing values are a sign that the talent pool in Florida may not have enough supply to fulfill workforce demand.
  • Additionally, lower rates of certificate and degree production may lead to falling economic vitality and civic quality outcomes.
