2026 TAKEAWAYS
In-migration of individuals supports innovative industries by bringing in diverse and in-demand skill sets. Employers view population growth as positive because it means the labor pool is expanding. Along with population growth, however, comes the demand for increased government services, including social services, transportation and other infrastructure needs.
For the first time in three years, the region did not rank first in Net Migration, moving to 2nd place. The growth rate slowed from 2.20% to 2.09%. The shift in trend is positive for Tampa Bay. The region is still highly desirable, but growth appears to be slowing which could help resource supply (such as the housing market) to become more balanced.
The in-migration rate of young adults (ages 25-34) also decreased slightly from 9.68% to 8.43%, placing Tampa Bay 7th in this category for the 2026 report.
