A high school diploma is a key credential for future study or to enter the workforce. It gives an overview of the talent pipeline and can help flag obstacles to economic mobility. Similarly, high AP exam pass rates and SAT scores facilitate pathways to higher education.
High school graduation rates declined marginally from 86.07% to 85.70%, while the rate for economically disadvantaged students dropped more significantly from 80.10% to 79.31%, causing the region to fall four spots to 15th. Focused efforts in late high school through the early stages of higher education will bolster the region’s long-term competitiveness.
